Holy Family School
History of the School
The School started in the year 2000 with missionaries Fr. Polycarp Ibekwe SMMM, one Senior Seminarian; Alexander IzuchukwuAbasili SMMM and four Postulants Cyril Okebanama, Edwin Nwalozie, Emmanuel Okafor and Benedict TobechukwuAnyanwu which was initiated by Engr. Emmanuel Nwadike of EgbeluOsusu to establish a Catholic Secondary School for Osusu and neighboring communities. To begin this project, he donated a parcel of land in the year 2000 on which the first academic block was later erected in 2002. The infant years of the school saw difficulties which included the political climate of Osusu and a building where classes will hold.
The school was to start as a day school for boys and girls which enthusiastically was welcomedby the people of Osusu and neighboring communities- IkemNvosi, Agbaragwu, Iheorji, Amaoji, Umuapiti, Umuolike, Obikabia, Nvosi and Amuzu which recorded more than one hundred students in the first academic year.
At the time, the school began with Jss1 so that it could gradually and steadily, building on a strong foundation rooted in the educational vision of our SMMM religious family. The next year that followed recorded the erection of the first three classrooms although there were limited funds available under three months the assignment was completed. After that vital year, the school moved briefly to the church compound. Then came the defining moment HRH Eze Emmanuel Nwadike made the ultimate gift – he donated the land for permanent construction. This generous act ensured that holy family was planted firmly in the soil of Osusu ready to flourish for centuries. The continuous success and stability of Holy Family are thanks to a succession of exceptional SMMM priests who served as principals, diligently upholding the school’s mission over the past quarter- century.
